In Arthur Millers, The Crucible, Giles Corey is a prominent character in part because of his unique role in the witch trials. The Salem Witch Trials was a series of events that took place in 1692, where innocent people were hung for apparently being witches. Giles Corey was one of the oldest people to be killed during the Salem Witch Trials. His entry for 19 September 1692 reads: Monday Sept-19th 1692. More weight, stated by Giles Corey from, The Crucible, before he was pressed to death for witchcraft. Miller would go on to pull a 'Giles Corey' of his own when he was called to testify before McCarthy's Un-American Activities Committee. Sewall kept a journal from 1673 until a few months before his death in 1730. Even though he is brutally tortured by having crushingly heavy stones place on his chest, the only thing Giles says is 'More weight' (IV.186). The composer and arranger is Caroline Shaw, and music director and arranger is Osnat Schmoo. By doing so, he ensures that his sons can legally inherit his property. Giles Corey is an interesting character in The Crucible for a few different reasons.
